How quickly I forget.

I've had quite a time trying to get Harlon to go to sleep on his own lately. Things go so smooth for a while and I get cocky I guess! I easily forget how interruptions in his schedule throw him off. We had our trip to Washington, which he went down on his own the whole time. Loved it! I was thinking, "hey, I have a pretty adaptable baby, sweet!" Then we had Pa and Gramma came for a visit and now a nasty cold with lots of nasal drainage and now congestion. The poor little guy had so much trouble sleeping at the beginning of the cold that I ended up holding him A LOT during the night just so he could get some rest. Doing what we normally do for naps I read to him, then sing to him then lay him down and he goes to sleep. Easy, right?! Yeah, lately not so much. At the beginning of the cold I did our nap routine only when I put the little precious down he protested like nobodies business.
So here I sit while my son, having to breathe through his mouth in order to sleep, drinking my coffee, blogging and analyzing my parenting....I think too much! Harlon really seems to sleep better when he goes down on his own and he does so 75% of the time. It's the other 25% that leaves me freaked out that I will be rocking my son to sleep when he's 2 years old. I do LOVE to rock my son to sleep though. There is something so serene about it. Those of you that know me are telling to RELAX right about now! Hee Hee!
I would really like to meet the mothers who's babies lay down and go to sleep every time. How do you do it! You must be the exception and we're normal right? Ah, the trials and tribulations of motherhood. I love every minute of it and as soon as Harlon smiles at me I forget all about times like these.

Here is my napping little angel all cozied up with his blanket.

And the little man standing with the help of the couch, chewing on the baby saline bottle. He's becoming quite independent with the standing and quite proud of himself.

In my research you are the norm and the ones who sleep on there one are not! Aiden still comes into our bed around midnight. We have tried just about everything. Lydia is always trying to sneak her way too. I keep my dreams focused on a weekend away without the kiddos and some much needed rest! Being a mommy is the best and one day we will wish they were wanting us to rock them and cuddle them. The trick is trying to treasure the moments without going crazy in the process. I havent quite figured that out yet ;o)

In the book I've been reading...it was saying that at about 10 months is when kids BEGIN to have the ability to soothe themselves....just food for thought. :) You're doing fine and if Harlon is happy and well loved (which we know he is!) than life is good!!!
