My only knowledge while I was pregnant was from my mom who had to cloth diaper both my brother and I. Back then you had only prefolds with pins and plastic covers, Ugh! After the stories of how she cleaned them I said NO WAY! Well...as with everything else cloth diapers have had some serious advances since 1977! Ha!
The diapers I chose are a pocket diaper. They require no pins or cover. The outer is water resistant and the inner liner that touches baby's bottom is fleece. All you do is put a microfiber insert in the pocket of the diaper and snap it on! Wet diapers are put in a dry diaper pail. Dirty diapers have to be cleaned in the toilet, yuck! But that's what a diaper sprayer is for. After the dirty ones are taken care of in the bathroom they go in they dry diaper pail as well.
When your supply is low you simply give the diapers and inserts a cold rinse with no detergent followed by a hot wash and cold rinse with detergent. After that you dry them in the dryer and boom you're done! So far no leaks or stains! Hanging them out in the sun is good for getting rid of stains if you're worried about it. Harlon is a heavy wetter but he makes it through a 2 hour nap right after a bottle with 2 inserts in the diaper. I haven't been brave enough to try them at night yet. He sleeps 10 or 11 hours at night and like I said he's a heavy wetter. One night I will get brave and try them! :)
Cloth diapering is so easy and cost effective now I wish I would have looked into it when I was pregnant. Here's our little guy in his red Fuzzi Bunz. Pretty darn cute!
